California Bike Week – Love Ride

25th Anniversary of the world’s largest 1-day motorcycle fundraiser.
August 13, 2008

Glendale, CA - The world’s largest 1-day motorcycle fundraiser and featured event of California Bike Week, Love Ride, will begin at 6AM in Glendale, CA as 25,000+ bikers assemble to head for Pomona Fairplex and the superstar concert, motorcycle marketplace, stunts, BBQ & more!

The world famous LOVE RIDE, the largest 1-day motorcycle fundraising event, will be bigger and more spectacular than ever this year as it celebrates the Silver Anniversary LOVE RIDE 25, slated for Sunday, October 26, 2008. The ride is always capped with a star-studded concert, which this year kicks things into the highest possible gear with a bill co-headlined by Rock and Roll Hall of Famers ZZ Top and alt-rock icons Foo Fighters, 2007 GRAMMY® winners for Best Rock Album. The concert, expected to draw a capacity crowd, will start at 12 noon at the Fairplex in Pomona, CA, where the crowd will also partake in a barbecue lunch, motorcycle trade show and vendor village, stunts, award ceremonies and more.

Also adding superstar wattage to LOVE RIDE 25 is Jay Leno, who’s served as Grand Marshall since the inception of the ride. Once again, he’ll preside this year as approximately 25,000 bikers from around the world – including a host of celebrity riders – convene in Glendale, CA for the revved-up benefit, which has raised over $20 million for various charities throughout the years. In keeping with tradition, riders will start their engines at 9AM and parade up Glendale’s main drag, Brand Boulevard, before making their way over to Pomona, where Fairplex gates are scheduled to open at 10AM.

Founder & Chairman Oliver Shokouh launched the LOVE RIDE in 1984 as a means to raise much needed funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The annual event now channels funds to a diverse array of non-profit organizations, mostly local Southern California and children’s charities. With everything planned for this year, LOVE RIDE 25 is poised to break all previous giving records.

Shokouh, who was inducted into the prestigious Sturgis Motorcycle Museum and Hall of Fame in South Dakota in honor of his remarkable accomplishments with the LOVE RIDE, commented, “More than anything, we see LOVE RIDE 25 as the beginning of the next twenty-five years, not as a cap to what’s behind us. We’re committed to sustaining this long into the future, and to taking full advantage of the extraordinary opportunity we have to help as many people as possible who are less fortunate. I couldn’t be more grateful to the amazing people who are making this year’s event so special.”

LOVE RIDE 25 is the centerpiece of California Bike Week (CBW), the state’s premiere motorcycle event (Oct. 24-26). Another LOVE RIDE 25/CBW highlight takes place Friday evening, October 24, when Los Angeles’ Petersen Automotive Museum opens up especially for a LOVE RIDE reception party with live music, as well as a special preview of the Bonham & Butterfield’s motorcycle auction that will take place the next day (Oct. 25).

Tickets may be purchased through Ticketmaster (www.ticketmaster.com).
